Before YouTube allowed everyone to share their humiliating flubs and failures with the world en masse, there was a true pioneer called America’s Funniest Home Videos. It’s now 23 years old and still going strong finding the cream of the user-generated video crop. In each episode, hilarious host Tom Bergeron, with the help of America’s video cameras, proves that human dignity can always be bought for cash prizes—because if a man gets hit in the family jewels and there’s no one there to record it for posterity, what’s the point? Break out the tripod, take the dog off its leash, wax Grandma’s kitchen floor, and, above all else, wear a cup. America doesn’t want to laugh with you; it wants to laugh at you. Repeatedly.
