We had quite the day trip in LA. Let me tell you. One word for you guys: Hollywood. Craziness. I know what youre thinking, we get to travel around and play music for people, but this is where the real celebrities are. Im talking blow your mind star power. And its everywhere. The night we got in we went to the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. This place was pretty swank. We wandered to the rooftop where we stumbled upon a private party for Michael Bolton. We got dinner at Cecconis where Joshua was 100% convinced he saw Kanye West. Doubtful. But, we did indeed sit in front of Marg Helgenberger (CSI I think). We were delivered back to Peninsula in their black RR Phantom - for those of you who don't know, that's a ridiculous car. It was a truly "rock star" experience. Those are pretty rare. When in LA, right!?
We started the next day where every good LA tourist would start: the intersection of Hollywood Blvd and Highland Avenue. Here you can find the Kodak Theatre and visit the courtyard of Graumans Chinese Theatre, where we saw the hand-prints and footprints of so many stars. Its pretty cool to think you are walking on the same ground that so many famous people have walked on, too!
From here we visited Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. HOW STRANGE! It is slightly unsettling to us that you can create almost replicas of human beings out of just wax. I mean, they looked pretty real. Lets just say Beyonce was looking great. Other favorites included the one and only Captain Jack Sparrow - Wilkerson was pretty terrified by the whole thing. We had to keep assuring him that they werent actually real people. He actually confused a real person for a wax sculpture and was going to touch it until they moved at the last second. We all had a good laugh on that one.
We also visited the Grammy museum. Being the musicians we are, we masqueraded around the museum and got to see some pretty cool stuff. Its always nice to see some of the history of the music industry and hope that one day we might even make it into that museum. Fingers crossed! We were pretty bummed we didnt have time to go see the Hollywood Bowl, Ripleys Believe It or Not, or to even see a movie here in Hollywood, but all in all it was a great day of sightseeing.
After fighting both the crowds and Jameys insistence that we go to Disneyland, we played our show at the Troubadour, a legendary club in West Hollywood on Santa Monica Blvd. So many great musicians have played there including Bob Dylan, Neil Young, James Taylor, Bruce Springsteen, and many other super famous artists. It was pretty special standing up there and thinking about all the names that have been there. Its an awesome place for a show with mostly standing room only on both the floor and the balcony. It has a very intimate feel and you could just feel the energy of the place coursing throughout it. We had a lot of friends join us on stage, including David Cook and his whole band, for a rendition of Joe Cocker's version of "Help With Friends". All in all, we love L.A. so thank you Hollywood for a great day, great show, and great night.
